Where and when were you born?I was born in the 80’s and we’ll leave it at that. I was born in a little town called Coleshill. I grew up in Liverpool. When did you start to play?I was very little when I started playing piano and was always singing as a child. I come from a musical household. I started performing in public at about 11 years old. Tell us about your previous projects.I graduated from LIPA in 2003. I started working with The Australian Pink Floyd Show in autumn 2003 and worked with them on various tours until 2009. In between that I had a record and publishing deal and toured with my own band playing support slots for artists such as KD Lang, Ray Lamontagne, Jamie Cullum and Simply Red. I have also spent time vocal coaching/ arranging for various groups, most recently upcoming female group Angels in White I started this year with Dennis Locorriere on his ‘Post Cool’ tour. In the last couple of years I’ve worked with Francis Rossi on his new solo album ‘One Step at a Time’ and toured with him in May this year. I have co written/ performed with new artist Jon Allen. Our song ‘You’re Kinda Trouble’ was featured as the theme tune for ITV series ‘City Lights’. ‘When the Morning Comes’, also written by Jon and myself, was on the Radio 2 playlist earlier this year. I have also been performing with up and coming singer/songwriter Gus MacGregor and I’m looking forward to touring with him in Switzerland this autumn. Who are your influences?Singing wise, when I was a little girl I loved Dionne Warwick, Peggy Lee and Karen Carpenter. Later on in college I spent time listening to Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Sandy Denny. Writing wise, I find influence and inspiration in all sorts of people. If you had to take one album to your desert island, what would it be and why? There are too many from too many different genres that I love. Therefore I’ll go with ‘Coles Corner’ by Richard Hawley. That’s not my absolute favourite, and I don’t have one. It’s just a beautifully written, produced and performed album that reminds me of a very special person, place and time in my life. What gear do you tour with?My voice is my main instrument. I steal percussion from time to time, and when I’ve played keyboards my favourite is a Nord something or other. One obscure interesting fact about yourself.I can fold my tongue into 3 loops. |
